The 49th IWWF World Cup Stop kicked off today in Shanghai, China with its Opening Ceremony at the Bi Hai Jin Sha Water Park.
The Shanghai Bihai Sands Investment Development Co. Ltd, supported by the local municipality and tourism department, is organising an IWWF Cable World Cup stop for the 3rd time. 30 Cable Wakeboard Athletes and 20 Cableski Athletes will compete for USD100,000.00 in prize money.
The VIP’s attending the Opening Ceremony included the Deputy Director of Shanghai Sports Bureau, Zhang Xingmin, President of the Chinese Waterski, Underwater & Powerboat Federation Mr Xu Sihai and IWWF President Jose Antonio Perez Priego.
IWWF President, Jose Antonio Perez Priego, took the opportunity to present Ariano Blanik and Julia Rick with their IWWF Male and Female Wakeboard Athlete of the Year Awards.
Creating a Gender Equal Policy was discussed during the IWWF Executive Board Meeting held last month in Dnipro, Ukraine and it was decided that winners (top 3 placing) of the Men’s & Women’s Cable Wakeboard events and winners of Men’s & Women’s Cableski jump events will receive equal prize money.
The competition begins tomorrow, Monday, starting with cable wakeboard qualification round followed by the first round of cableski jump.
