The IWWF TC is evaluating two proposed ranking systems to replace the current performance based system. The first system is currently used by the cableski division and is based on placement. Points are given for specific placement and then modified based on the type of tournament and the number of ranked skiers in the competition. A technical description and the results of this system which is dynamic based on the last year’s performances can be seen at DISPLAY RANKING

The second system is a system currently in use by some sports and games associations, notably the Chess Federation, called the ELO system after its creator. The system establishes a ranking for each competitor. When the athletes compete, their probability of success is calculated based on the rankings of the skiers in the event. How each skier does against his calculated probability raises or lowers his ranking. A technical description and the results of this system which is dynamic based on the performances starting on May 1, 2016 can be seen at ELO DISPLAY RANKING

The initial rankings are based on the May 1 performance ranking list.
