A stand alone IWWF Senior Waterski Championships will be held starting 2019. This was one of the important decisions that the IWWF Pan American Confederation decided at the recent Congress held at Lake Morros in Santiago, chaired by IWWF Pan Am Secretary General  Ms Karen McClintock and presided by IWWF Pan Am Vice President Ms. Maria Isabel Manchen.  The age groups will be similar to the current IWWF World Over-35 World Waterski Championships but with an innovative new format which is currently in the works. Bids are welcome to host the inaugural IWWF Pan American Senior Waterski Championships with a closing date of end January 2019.

The IWWF Pan American Waterski Championships, with Junior and Open categories, will continue to be held in even years and the Dominican Republic has shown interest to host the next edition in 2020.

During the Congress, the IWWF Pan American Waterski Council selected Bob Corson (USA), Larry Gisler (CHL) and Sergio Font (MEX) as representatives on the IWWF World Waterski Council.  Paraguay and Panama were also welcomed as new member Federations of the IWWF Pan American Confederation.

The 2018 IWWF Pan American Waterski Championships are currently underway at Lake Moros in Chile.  Federico Jaramillo from Columbia set a new IWWF Pan American Boys Under-17 Slalom Record with a score of 3 buoys @ 10.75 metres in the preliminary round, erasing Robert Pigozzi’s (DOM) previous record.  Robert currently leads in Open Men’s Slalom, having run one buoy on the 10.25 metre line in the preliminary round, ahead of current IWWF World Open Men’s Slalom Champion and Record Holder, Nate Smith (USA), who ran 2 buoys on the 10.75 metre line.
